wellbeing for educators

Senior leaders should develop staff well-being by creating a positive working environment in which staff feel supported, valued and listened to, and have an appropriate level of autonomy.

The biggest asset our schools have is their staff and their biggest asset is their health and wellbeing. How can you support them to be their best, when everyone is stretched to breaking point in often challenging circumstances?

We know that staff in educational settings juggle a multitude of different tasks and demands on a daily basis, and never more so than since the onset of COVID-19. In such demanding settings, the personal often gets neglected, with the cumulative impact of stress, overwork and poor nutrition having a knock-on effect on sleep, anxiety levels, personal development and even relationships. And that’s without all the extra burden of managing their own safety and that of others. Now more than ever it’s really important that staff are given the right emotional and practical support, in order to thrive and be better able to support their pupils and colleagues.

Having worked with educational practitioners in a training role, I was invited to create a tailored session for them combining nutrition, coaching and mindfulness. The feedback was positive and a seed was sown. The wellbeing offer grew from here and three years on has been delivered in settings across the SW and in London, from Early Years Inset days to Head Teacher away-days.

Each socially distanced or online session, can be designed as a standalone or to complement an inset day, team meeting or wellbeing initiative. Packed full of easy-to-apply principles, tips and exercises to improve wellbeing, they ensure teaching and support staff are on top form to face the extra challenges of working in the current climate.

What our clients are saying

It is important to look after the wellbeing of staff teams and the session with Francine at our annual training day did just that. Francine has a calm and encouraging way of presenting which engages everybody. My team now has a toolkit of strategies to ensure they take care of themselves and they are still talking about the morning with Francine. An added bonus was the overnight oats which many of them are now making regularly!

Francine delivered a mindfulness workshop and a healthy breakfast activity at a training day for early years practitioners - it was a great start to the day. The session promoted emotional health through an engaging, thought-provoking introduction to mindfulness and physical health with a nutritious breakfast. There were lots of practical ideas provided as to how to incorporate mindfulness into the delegates’ daily lives, which would support their own wellbeing and their professional roles working with children. Delegates’ feedback included that they found the session enjoyable and informative, and were inspired to share the learning with colleagues and plan to implement the practical ideas in their settings.
